Exciting! Vibrant! Big! The WOW Factor ......

Hi everyone,

Well the words above, exciting, vibrant, big, the WOW factor, all describe what has to be the most adventurous and fabulous exhibition of the year!

To top off a terrific 2012 at the gallery, Laura Holland's solo show of large energetic works has to be the best yet! We are thrilled to have Laura in Gallery One as it's always great to finish the year on a bright note!

Of course, Marian's fine Arabian horses are hard to beat. They have been adorning the walls for over 4 weeks now and we will be sad to see them come down but they have brought in a large crowd of admirers, not the least was one of the jockeys who's horse is featured in one of the works...... we didn't catch his name but he did state the painting was 'worth more than the horse!' This was a great comment as the horse won it's race so obviously both horse and artwork are winners!

But back to Laura for the grand finale...... it's been a difficult year in many ways but still we have seen some of the finest work ever displayed in the gallery and have thoroughly enjoyed all the hard work throughout the year to keep bringing you the region's finest artists. They haven't disappointed us. The exhibiting artists during 2012 are dedicated to their arts practices and just keep on painting and sculpting even in the difficult times so they're the ones to watch!

For more on Laura's show, click here.....

The work shown below is a mixed media work 1.2 m x 1,2 m on canvas! Just one of many exciting works to come!

You're always welcome at Jayes Gallery and if one of our stable isn't on display and you're interested, then please ask to see what we have in our stockroom!

See you soon.

Marian's new works of Arabian horses, peacocks and other icons from the Middle East will delight you. Her works are wonderfully detailed and realistic but also encompass a degree of fantasy as is the tradition of the East. Her love of her subjects shine through in each artwork Marian produces.

This is the last solo show for Jayes Gallery for 2012 so make sure you don't miss this one! Opening on Saturday 13 October 2012 at 6 pm, we would love to see you at the gallery to enjoy the show, meet with the artists and participate in a delightful evening.

Two Amazing Shows - 3 Fabulous Artists

"Rumour Gossip and Innuendo"
Paintings from renowned artist, Eris Fleming
Opens: Friday 7 September 2012 at 6 pm
Exhibition runs to  7 October 2012

Eris Fleming is a well known and much loved artist with his own particular style of humour. When one realizes that he is of Irish/French stock, we can understand where his perverse style comes from. His love of colour and ability to blend them with panache obviously comes from his French side, but the fun and laughter that his paintings evoke come from the Irish.
This upcoming exhibition will prove to be yet another delightful event and will both inform and provoke you with Eris’ stylish sense of humour and bright joyful paintings.
Eris Fleming tells us that he “was born at Inverell in 1943, the fifth son in a family of nine boys. His early years were spent on a farm outside Delungra in north western New South Wales. In this environment, rabbiting, horses, picking up dead wool, skinning snakes and shanghais were serious ways to get through the day.”
Having been raised in the Australian bush, he attended outback schools where the day was spent raising disputes about the size of one’s marbles, the glass kind and comparing serious notes on the weirdness of ‘bushies’. Although Eris managed to find his way to achieving a degree in medicine, he soon saw the error of his ways and returned to the bush. His wry sense of humour has that broad and cutting edge that is only found in Australia.
Eris prepares his own canvases and panels and does not like labels but if pressed would call himself a colourist, painting things and places Australian.
He is represented in many collections both in Australia and overseas.

"Broadarrow Ambling"
Etchings and paintings from renowned artist, Judy Whitlock
Hallmarked Jewellery by silver smith, Sarah Whitlock

This is a collaborative exhibition in silver and on paper by Sydney-based, Sarah Whitlock, jewellery and object-maker, and Judy Whitlock, artist and printmaker, both of whom have fine reputations in the arts.

Having exhibited widely in Sydney and overseas, these two artists bring us superb and finely wrought art pieces that reflect their love of the wildness of nature and the Australian outback.

Sharing a studio in the City, Judy works on paper; Sarah works with metal – mostly sterling silver, adding precious and semi-precious stones.

Preferring the wild and untrammeled, Judy gravitates to areas less populated, in order to collect new material; areas like Willandra Lakes Heritage Area in western NSW, isolated pockets of the Snowy Mountains, and her country retreat at Watagan. Trees are special subjects. Judy etches her images into silver and then makes a very limited edition of prints on paper.

Sarah, also located in Sydney and sharing the studio with Judy, is a contemporary jeweller with her own hallmark. In this show, her works are predominantly in sterling silver to create wearable art pieces of adornment and fine collectible objects from the “master plates” of Judy.

"....like a three ring circus" - a whimsical zen communique!

Exhibiting at Jayes Gallery for the first time, two well known and recognised artists who have moved to the country from the city to gain the freedom and inspiration that the ‘bush’ provides.
Davies’s mark making expands on the everyday objects found in country fields and down country lanes. There is a ‘zen’ like quality about these pastel and soft paintings that evoke the ethereal and remind one of dreams and fleeting impressions. Hoyle brings a range of metals, found objects and bright steel together in intriguing sculptures that range from large to small and have a whimsical quality to them. They remind one of Lewis Carroll’s “Looking through the Looking Glass” with their unique compositions.

This is an exhibition that will delight the viewer and collector alike.
